Bye-Bye Crib

November 6, 2007
Our independent toddler - August 2009

I can't believe we are going to be moving Sawyer out of the crib, but it's true. First he mastered the pack and play and now he's moved onto the crib. His climbing skills are better than Audrey's, and she's 4! She is still nervous to climb out of Sawyer's crib when she gets in there with him. Not wanting her to be such a wuss, I always force her to climb out.

Yesterday I was carrying a laundry basket into my bedroom and I turned around to find Sawyer standing behind me with a huge smile on his face. I almost screamed/swore or kicked him because he startled me so bad. I felt like he was an intruder or something! This morning I heard him verbally talking himself through the climbing process, sounding something like this in his ever improving toddler lingo, "foot, foot, foot, stuck, climb, climb, fall, fall, bum, boom, all done. Door, door, door, ADA (which means Audrey), come." I then opened his door and found him sitting on his rug playing with his blocks. When he woke from his nap today I only left him in his crib for 1 or 2 minutes. I then heard BOING, one of his favorite noises. He was playing with the door stop.

So, we have one of two choices...keep him in the crib and risk injury or move him out. One part of me does think he's OK since he's such a skilled climber but the mom part of me thinks I'll be heading to IKEA to buy new furniture this weekend.
